Hundreds Of Pounds Of Illegal Fireworks Seized In Stockton

Stockton police, firefighters, and the bomb squad arrived at a North Stockton home Sunday acting on a tip.

Officers confiscated almost $5,000 in illegal fireworks over the weekend, the Denver Police Department said.

Boxes and boxes of illegal fireworks were in the garage.

Police are crediting a tip with helping them seize hundreds of pounds of illegal fireworks in Stockton.

According to the department, the fireworks had a value of about $10,000.

Now, with a new ordinance in effect in Modesto, police hope to get even more illegal fireworks off the streets and out of neighborhoods.

Illegal fireworks that light up the night sky are also a beacon for officers cracking down on what they call risky behavior. Officers arrested William Yanes, 37, of Stockton on felony charges related to possessing illegal fireworks.

Only "safe and sane" fireworks are legal within the city limits of Stockton. Anyone caught using or selling fireworks could be fined up to $999 and/or jailed for one year. "We encourage anyone with information about illegal fireworks to call in and report what they've seen".
