Maserati reveals updated GranTurismo in NY

It was revealed in wonderfully flamboyant fashion - by driving a GranTurismo MC up to the New York Stock Exchange so Maserati CEO Reid Bigland could ring the closing bell.

A restyling inside and out mark some of the major changes the MY18 GranTurismo sports. The GranTurismo's new grille design is inspired by the Alfieri concept, while new lower front air dams help reduce drag.

Inside, expect great levels of comfort thanks to the Poltrona Frau leather seats with integrated headrests. Alcantara trim is available.

In the cabin, all 2018 GranTurismos come with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' familiar infotainment system with an 8.4-inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. A redesigned centre console also sees a double rotary control knob added.

Now, the good stuff. The standard GranTurismo Sport will sprint from 0-60 miles per hour (0-100 km/h) in 4.8 seconds, while the more performance oriented MC Stradale will do the same dance in 4.8 seconds. Both models will be powered by a 460-horsepower 4.7-liter V8 engine mated to a 6-speed ZF automatic transmission. The lighter MC version hits 62 miles per hour in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 187 miles per hour. In terms of performance, the Sport will complete the century sprint in an unchanged 4.8 seconds (299 km/h top speed), while the lightweight MC will do the same a fraction quicker at 4.7 seconds (301 km/h top speed).

The Maserati GranTurismo has been with us in one form or another since 2007, but the Italian automaker has no immediate plans to replace it, today rolling out the updated model for 2018.
