Mistrial declared in Bill Cosby sexual assault case

Mistrial declared in Bill Cosby sexual assault case

"Despite the disappointing outcome of this case, I take comfort knowing that Bill Cosby's life is now, and forever will be, a living hell".

Bill Cosby gestures as he leaves the Montgomery County Courthouse during his sexual assault trial, Friday, June 16, 2017, in Norristown, Pa. She said she viewed Cosby as a mentor and friend and went to his home in mid-January 2004 to discuss her career. Constand "has shown such courage through this, and we are in awe of what she has done", Steele said.

"The judge has made some indications in court that he is looking to put this on track within 120 days", Steele said.

Andrew Wyatt, Cosby's spokesman, took time to directly criticize Allred after the judge's decision.

Cosby will remain free on $1 million bail.

She joined a small group of accusers who stood in the stately courtroom, hugging a smiling Constand, while Cosby sat impassively at the defense table with his attorneys. The jury has been deadlocked and are unable to reach a verdict.

Approximately 60 other women have made similar allegations against the former star of the hit 1980s TV comedy "The Cosby Show", but only Constand's accusation is recent enough to allow for criminal prosecution. Constand, who is gay, said their contact was not consensual. In it, she described the district attorney as "heinously and exploitively ambitious", the judge as "overtly and arrogantly collaborating with the district attorney", the counsels for the accusers as "totally unethical", and many media outlets as "blatantly vicious entities that continually disseminated intentional omissions of truths for the primary objective of greedily selling sensationalism at the expense of a human life". After 30 hours of deliberation, the jury announced on Thursday morning that they were deadlocked.

Constand did not appear at the news conference. Judge Steven O'Neill told the jury he could not provide additional information.

Cosby's wife, Camille Cosby, slammed prosecutors for bringing the case to court. "Overtly arrogant, collaborating with the district attorney", said her statement, which was read by Wyatt.

The judge's declaration of a mistrial came after he polled each member of the panel pulled from Allegheny County. Constand testified and was grilled by Cosby's defense over alleged inconsistencies in her story over the years.

Cosby was charged with three counts of aggravated indecent assault.

Bill Cosby's trial on sexual assault charges has ended without a verdict after jurors failed to break a deadlock. She says he drugged and sexually assaulted her in his Manhattan brownstone around 1990. This was the only case to result in criminal charges against Cosby.

Prosecutors vow to re-try Cosby within 4 months. Uh, weird. Hey, hey, hey. you got off again, Mr. Cosby, but we have a feeling your luck will run out.

The jury was handed the case Monday evening, and retired after four hours to the hotel that has been their home throughout the trial.

The sequestered jury of seven men and five women paused deliberations many times to revisit testimony or ask for clarity on the phrasing of the charges.

He said, "I also want to thank the supporters who've been here and please to the supporters, stay calm, do not argue with people, just keep up the great support".
