No plan to sack Russian Federation probe head Mueller: US justice official

President Donald Trump complained on social media about the wide-ranging investigation of Russian interference in the USA election as Robert Mueller appeared to widen his probe to include whether Trump tried to obstruct justice. "I think it is", Ruddy said.

Ruddy told PBS that Trump was considering the dismissal because of concerns about conflicts of interest. I think it's very clear by what one of his lawyers said on television recently. Ruddy said he thought firing Mueller would be a "significant mistake".

If in fact the termination is carried out, it could spark another major political storm in the U.S. and cast doubt on Trump's integrity.

Examining such possible charges will allow investigators to interview key administration figures including Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein and possibly Trump himself, said the source familiar with the Mueller investigation. "I think the best vindication for the president is to let the investigation go on independently and thoroughly". If Sessions did recuse himself, it would fall to Rosenstein to fire the guy who he'd appointed weeks earlier.

Just one day ago the Post reported President Donald Trump is under criminal investigation for obstruction of justice.

Gingrich tweeted, "Republicans are delusional if they think the special counsel is going to be fair". If Trump were to make such a move, he would have to order Rosenstein to fire Mueller. Trump later contradicted his own staff, saying on May 11 he had the Russian Federation issue in mind when he fired Comey.

But those details do not appear to have swayed the allies and surrogates of the president, who have stepped up attacks and criticisms of Mueller's handling of the investigation.

On Tuesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions declined to reveal what he and Trump have discussed about the Russian Federation probe or the decision to fire Comey.

"But I think it would be odd that he would have a confidential conversation and then a few days later become prosecutor of the person he would be investigating", he added.

"No, I have not", he said. Ruddy later confirmed the comment to CNN.

[B] ehind the scenes, the president soon began entertaining the idea of firing Mr. Mueller even as his staff tried to discourage him from something they believed would turn a bad situation into a catastrophe, according to several people with direct knowledge of Mr. Trump's interactions.

A spokesman for him declined to comment on Wednesday.
