Officer injured in skirmish at SF's downtown Westfield mall

A police officer was injured and a downtown San Francisco mall was closed following a fight.

The fight began among about a dozen people in the food court, and out from there, according to police.

The Westfield Mall in San Fransisco was forced to close early on Sunday, June 25 after a riot caused a lockdown.

One video shows an officer swinging what appears to be a nightstick at a young man, while several of his colleagues nearby struggle to subdue another person.

The San Francisco Police Department received multiple 911 calls at around 6.43pm about a violent melee at Westfield Mall located at Market and Fifth streets. Dozens of officers swarmed the shopping mall in the Union Square area of the city and were seen in witness videos taking multiple suspects into custody.

Police say at least one juvenile has been arrested. As it reached the second level of the building, officers were attacked as they used the escalator to reach the crowd and stop the fight. Rueca said a number of people have been detained.

The incident occurred after the Pride Parade, and many people were in the area at the time. My goal in life is to one day write a Batman screenplay.
