Officer stabbed at Flint airport recovering, doctors say

He was but a few millimeters away from death.

Yesterday, a man with a 12-inch knife allegedly stabbed a police officer at Bishop International Airport in Flint.

According to the FBI, who released a statement on the incident, it was made by an FBI Special Agent in Charge David P. Gelios said the person was identified as a 50 yearold Amor Ftouhi, who is a Canadian citizen, stabbed the police officer in the Bishop International Airport.

Authorities say Amor M. Ftouhi, a Tunisian national with dual citizenship in Canada, struck Neville with a 12-inch knife with a green handle and a black serrated blade marked "Amazon Jungle Survival Knife" while yelling "Allahu Akbar", which means "God is great" in Arabic. Dr. Donald Scholten said he is making good progress after being stabbed from "by his Adam's apple" up "to the angle of his jaw".

Neville fought off Ftouhi and was helped within seconds by others in the airport.

Doctors said the airport officer had a hemorrhage on the way to the hospital, where he would later undergo surgery. Scholten said there are two separate areas affected but he suspects that they came from the same action.

"He suffered a large laceration of the right side of his neck".

Scholten said he expects Neville to recover and return to usual activities within six to eight weeks.

According to authorities, Ftouhi entered Flint's airport at 8:52 a.m. Wednesday, carrying a red duffel bag and a dark satchel bag. At 9:37 a.m., Ftouhi left the restaurant carrying both bags.

He declined to go into why Flint was chosen for the attack, but said Ftouhi "did want to identify an worldwide airport and Flint, by name alone, is known as an global airport".

"Officer Neville was calm and. understood the situation he was in. Most folks probably would not do that", Scholten said.

Ftouhi, who holds duel Tunisian and Canadian citizenship, attempted to purchase a gun in the US but was unsuccessful, according to Special Agent David Gelios of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Meanwhile, new details about his alleged attacker, a married father of three who worked on and off as a truck driver, have emerged.

Acting U.S. Attorney of the Eastern District of Michigan Daniel Lemisch also attended the news conference and said more charges are likely.

David Gelios, head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Detroit, said Ftouhi unsuccessfully tried to buy a gun once he arrived in the USA, but instead managed to buy a knife.
