Police arrest 18 protesters over motorist shooting verdict

At least 18 people arrested in the United States city of St Paul following acquittal of officer who shot and killed a black man.

According to Columbus Police, four of the officers were injured while attempting to move the protestors.

A couple of hundred people marched through St. Anthony Village Sunday afternoon to remember Philando Castile and protest the acquittal of the officer who killed him. "I am so disappointed in the state of Minnesota".

A police statement said the charges against the 18 included "being a pedestrian on the freeway". "If we can't count this system to just give us justice, we need to come together and make our own justice". The Washington Post reported that the jury decision came nearly a year after Castile's death.

Prosecutors in St. Paul, Minnesota, said recordings from the vehicle - both from Reynolds' phone and from a dashboard camera - showed that Castile was courteous and non-threatening, and they told the court there was no justification for Yanez' action. No video existed of exactly what happened inside the vehicle.

For the case to go before a federal court, there is a higher standard of proof. Their decision is administered by a judge.

Yes, the evidence indicates that Yanez was afraid for his life. On Friday, Yanez was acquitted of second degree manslaughter charges.

Castile, however, had no criminal record. Diamond contends that Philando Castile was pulled over because he "had a wide nose and looked like a suspect". Yanez fired seven shots in the direction of Castile in rapid succession.

Castile's sister, Allysza Castile, said Dae-Ann was like a child to him. "This is my license, ' they automatically are reaching for their gun thinking you're going to draw your gun on them, once again not realizing you're a good guy", Gerry Martin, a black concealed carry holder from Pennsylvania, told NBC Washington. And his mother, Valerie, has important things to say about this verdict.

"He didn't deserve to die the way he did", Philando Castile's sister, Allysza, told reporters, through tears.

She said she believes the public will be shocked when they see the dashcam video of the shooting. "I'm mad as hell right now, yes, I am", she said.

Acknowledging that they have a weapon, they said, can open them up to violence from police, who can then claim they feared for their lives simply because of the presence of a gun, even a legal one.

"This incident seemed so egregious and avoidable that we hoped that this time, it might be different - that this time, justice might be served", Ifill said.

"It was a clear-cut case", Jaylani Hussein, chief of the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said on local TV station KSTP. "We're very happy. Yanez was innocent".
