President Trump hits Obama over response to Russia election meddling

"They're responsible for this".

While the Obama administration did impose some sanctions on the Russian government as a result of its interference efforts, at least one official from his White House told The Washington Post that the administration's response to the Kremlin's attack "is the hardest thing about my entire time in government to defend".

Schiff said the sanctions should have come sooner and been stronger.

Kellyanne Conway, an adviser to Trump, also said on ABC's "This Week" program on Sunday that the Obama had a duty to act on Russian hacking and that while Trump believes Russia was involved, "others are hacking" as well.

Another former Obama White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Mr. Trump's attacks on Mr. Obama were "a transparent effort to distract from the awful impact of their [Obamacare] repeal bill".

In January 2017, the United States intelligence community voiced its conclusions that Russian President Vladimir Putin had ordered hackers to use cybercrime in order to sway the 2016 U.S. vote in favor of Donald Trump, to the detriment of his rival Hillary Clinton. "He believes Russian Federation was behind it, but he thinks other people hacked, too".

Some officials were reportedly wary of taking action before the election, which was dominated by Trump making claims on the campaign trail of the election being "rigged" against him. Ultimately, he made no direct response until after Trump's election victory, when he expelled 35 Russian diplomats and closed two Russian facilities that the USA believed Moscow was using for intelligence gathering.

Asked about the AP report that Trump is eager for a full bilateral meeting, Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters in Moscow on Monday that "the protocol side of it is secondary". "The American people are scratching their heads".

Some Democrats saw abundant irony in Trump blaming Obama for indecisiveness against a Russian operation he himself has long seemed to play down - including when he fired Federal Bureau of Investigation chief James Comey in May over his handling of allegations of meddling, and possible collusion with Trump's campaign.

A former Obama White House official on Monday dismissed Trump's attacks on the ex-president as "a transparent effort to distract" from the impact of the administration's embattled efforts to repeal and replace Obama's health care reforms. He should have done something about it.

"With 4 months looking at Russia", Trump wrote on Monday.

Now it's Donald Trump's problem. It did not respond to questions about the opposing views within the administration. "That goes for Russian Federation or anybody else who wants to interfere in our democracy". The two governments had not yet ironed out further details about a meeting, he added.

"[Trump] takes very seriously integrity at the ballot box in all of its forms", she said.

I opened up the failing "New York Times" and "The Washington Post" this morning.
