'Spoiled, Naive, Arrogant': Professor Loses Contract Renewal After Condemning Otto Warmbier

'Spoiled, Naive, Arrogant': Professor Loses Contract Renewal After Condemning Otto Warmbier

The University of DE has cut ties with an adjunct professor who suggested that Otto Warmbier, a college student whose death last week after being imprisoned in North Korea drew worldwide attention, was a "clueless white male" who "got exactly what he deserved".

Kathy Dettwyler, an adjunct professor of anthropology, was the subject of intense backlash after she posted on her personal Facebook page that Otto Warmbier "deserved" to die after being taken into custody by North Korea, falling into a coma and dying.

He died Monday after being returned to America in a coma.

The justice system isn't the only area of North Korea that most people find completely absurd.

North Korea's regime has also declared itself to be the biggest victim of Warmbier's death. U.S. President Donald Trump blamed "the brutality of the North Korean regime" for Warmbier's death.

In response to the insensitive public declaration, the University of DE decided not to rehire the adjunct professor and issued a statement that condemned her comments, which "do not reflect the values or position" of the institution.

Medical tests didn't show what precipitated his injuries but doctors found no evidence of the botulism infection that North Korea claimed caused his coma.

Before his release, Otto Warmbier was one of the total of four Americans detained by North Korea, who included two recently arrested Korean-American university professors.

There have been no allegations or accusations that Otto raped any women in the United States or North Korea. The widespread view has been that Pyongyang uses the detentions of Americans as bargaining chips in its negotiations with Washington.

Mourners carry the coffin of Otto Warmbier during his fueral in Wyoming, Massachusetts, USA, 22 June 2017.

"Dettwyler also reportedly asked for "a few moments of thought" for all the other people who suffer at the hands of the North Korean regime - and are "not USA citizens". "Just because they are [North] Koreans, and not USA citizens, we shouldn't care about them?"

The spokesman said "groundless" speculation of torture and beatings could be refuted by American doctors who went to North Korea at the time of Warmbier's repatriation and "recognized that his health indicators like pulse, temperature, respiration and the examination result of the heart and lung were all normal".

The university made the announcement in a statement Sunday.
