No compromise on national security, says PM in FO meeting

The US decision to ally with India vis-a-vis Jammu and Kashmir is a sign that "Pakistan has been unable to adapt its approach to India" led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a Pakistani newspaper said on Friday. Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua and all additional secretaries of the Foreign Office were also present.

Prime Minister Sharif will also be briefed on the performance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other matters.

With the portfolio of the foreign affairs under his belt, Prime Minister Nawaz is now chair a close-doors high level meeting in the Foreign Office where an extensive briefing has been arranged on the subject.

During the briefing the diplomatic crisis in the Middle East was also discussed along with Pakistan's position on the issue.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) for third consecutive day today by targeting Indian posts and civilian areas with mortar bombs, small and automatic weapons in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district. This happened hours before US President Donald Trump and Modi met in Washington for their first face-to-face talks and issued a joint statement urging Pakistan not to let its territory be used for cross-border terror attacks. The US side was represented by US Vice President Mike Pence, defence secretary James Mattis, secretary of state Rex Tillerson and National Security Adviser Lt Gen. H.R. McMaster while Indian team included National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, foreign secretary S. Jaishankar and the Indian ambassador to the US, Navtej Sarna.

The meeting comes days after the Unite States declared Pakistan-based Hizbul Mujahideen leader Syed Salahuddin a global terrorist.
