Pet dog resuscitated by California firefighters

Pet dog resuscitated by California firefighters

- A California dog can breathe easier after being rescued from a house fire.

Jack was pulled from the burning house but needed help from the Bakersfield firefighters.

"We're gonna give him some oxygen", one firefighter can be heard saying as the dog lay deathlike on a lawn outside a residential structure that caught fire.

The poor dog had inhaled smoke and emergency services tried to save him using a specialized animal oxygen mask, as his owner looked on.

Moments later, he comes around and is well enough to be reunited with his owner.

"The small breed dog was pulled from the interior unresponsive, with semi-agonal respirations", the Bakersfield Fire Department said in a Facebook post.

Jack was revived and transported to Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital where he'll remain under observation for the next 24 to 48 hours for any additional injuries or complications.

He added: "We pulled the dog outside and it appeared very lifeless".

"We administered oxygen via a pet O2 mask that was very generously donated by a couple of girl scouts a year ago".
