Snapchat "Snap Maps" Could be unsafe to Your Children

Snapchat

The new mapping features permit users to share their location with friends.

Snapchat has introduced a map feature that lets users track other people's location in real time, a move that could open new doors to marketers, but also raises concerns among safety and privacy advocates.

The teen said: "Snapchat automatically updated me and I wasn't aware that it was on, being that people in that moment could see what I was doing". The feature, called Snap Maps, allows users to pinpoint another user's exact location, down to a specific area, town, and street.

The police have advised parents to make sure their child's app is placed on Ghost Mode, which hides the user's location.

The Loose Women presenter branded it "disgusting and dangerous" in a video posted on her Facebook page about the social media app's new SnapMaps - after discovering her 14-year-old daughter Maddie was using it. This is a step too far. She urged all parents to ensure that Children Snap Maps feature is turned off into a ghost mode.

"We've built a whole new way to explore the world!" For some it's a great new feature; for others - especially those concerned about their young children using the platform - it's borderline creepy.

It will ask you to pinch and zoom in the camera tool to access the map.

There are three choices on who can see your location - "all your friends", "select friends", or "only me".

"Snapchatters can choose exactly who they want to share their location with, if at all, and can change that setting at any time".

If two users follow each other, they can share their locations and see where the other person is and what they are doing.
