TASTE THE HAPPY: 'Arrested Development' S5 Is Gonna Be A Murder Mystery

TASTE THE HAPPY: 'Arrested Development' S5 Is Gonna Be A Murder Mystery

Arrested Development may already be the twistiest comedy on television - particularly when it's doing a tiresomely experimental one-character-perspective-per-episode thing, as in its fourth season.

Jason Bateman is a serious actor now: Netflix's new drama series "Ozark" premieres Friday, and Bateman stars as a man laundering money for a Mexican drug cartel. Season four was a pretty high-concept piece of television, with multiple timelines and episodes that didn't feature all of the Bluths we've come to know and tolerate, so we've long wondered if season five would take a similar route, or get back to basics. "We start shooting in two weeks and I keep checking my phone for the first script", he admitted. At least, that's the vision held by series mastermind Mitch Hurwitz according to Jason Bateman.

"He's aware of all of that stuff", Jason Bateman, who plays Michael Bluth, said in an interview with The Daily Beast. And it seems like Season 5 will center around that fact.

"[It's] a bit of a whodunnit, who may have done it, who has something to do with it", Bateman teased. And they also tried to profit off a wall between the USA and Mexico.

In the interview, Bateman is informed that Donald Trump Jr.is being called "Gob" in some circles, nicknamed after the doofus Bluth brother played by Will Arnett. "That's so amusing. Wait... does that make me Eric?" "The first act was done on the first batch of Netflix episodes [in 2013], and we're about to do now the second act of that story, and then the act third act presumably will be done if we can all get it together at a later date, maybe in another few years", shared Bateman.

"We're all together. We don't have the same limitations that we had on us back then", he says. Tony [Hale] for one, on "Veep", couldn't be on two shows at the same time.

[Mitch] was embracing the interface of Netflix, which was fairly new at the time in original programming, and wanted to be able to basically have you click out of one episode and click into somebody else's episode and see a different view point on this simultaneous action. Editorially, I think that proved to be a little bit more of a challenge than he anticipated, and I think as a effect it ended up having some more complications and wrinkles in it than maybe he intended.
