Wimbledon results 2017: Roger Federer through to 4th round

Tearing up, Mattek-Sands calls it "one of the most painful injuries that I've had - and I've had a few in my career".

"Now here we're together, we are having a great time". He's been on the tour for so long and told me so many things about the players. She's been an awesome support to me.

Federer has reached the fourth round at Wimbledon for the 15th time. "It's as simple as that", the 18-time Grand Slam champion said.

Both then served nearly perfectly until Federer found himself facing another break point in the 11th game.

Federer might be a little more challenged here than he was on the hard court by Zverev, but it's impossible to see him losing this one.

The 3rd round saw 3rd seed Roger Federer, a 7-time victor at the big W, take on 27th seed Mischa Zverev, who was looking for his 100th win on the ATP circuit.

Meanwhile, Federer, the No. 3 seed, is scheduled to square off against 13th-seeded Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov for a place in the quarter-finals.

Undaunted Zverev continued on his merry way, playing a full part in an entertaining contest but he could not leave with the brilliance of Federer.

After 4 commanding service games, Tiafoe crumbled again in the third game, handing the break to his rival with 4 costly groundstroke errors. At times it appears the match runs to his tune - not expending too much energy but just enough to get the job done.

"I think it important to get through first week with good feeling", added Federer, who has only lost before the last-16 twice in his last 50 Grand Slam appearances. Mrs. Federer would do well to hold off with any immediate retirement demands for now. The German's big serve was proving unsafe - not least for a line judge, who was hit twice - and the set continued with serve to a tiebreak.

It was a ruthless display from Djokovic, who suffered a subdued quarter-final defeat to Dominic Thiem at the French Open last month.

Seven players retired from their matches in the first round, and another in the second.

Nadal, in particular, has struggled at the grass grand slam, failing to get beyond the fourth round since 2011 and missing the tournament altogether past year due to injury.

Also through to Monday's packed schedule are Milos Raonic and Alexander Zverev, the pair coming through straightforward encounters to set up a last-16 encounter that will have the speed gun in overdrive. "The Grand Slam supervisor and the assistant referee didn't believe that there was either".

Women's third round: No. 2 Simona Halep beat Peng Shuai 6-4, 7-6 (7); No. 4 Elina Svitolina beat Carina Witthoeft 6-1, 7-5; No. 6 Johanna Konta beat Maria Sakkari 6-4, 6-1; No. 27 Ana Konjuh beat No. 8 Dominika Cibulkova 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-4; No. 10 Venus Williams beat Naomi Osaka 7-6 (3), 6-4; No. 13 Jelena Ostapenko beat Camila Giorgi 7-5, 7-5; No. 21 Caroline Garcia beat Madison Brengle 6-4, 6-3; Victoria Azarenka beat Heather Watson 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. He was at 30-30 in game 6 after a double fault from Zverev but German stayed calm and he closed the game with good attack and a service victor, for a 4-2.
