9-year-old applies for job at NASA, receives heartfelt response

NASA's recent job posting for a planetary protection officer has been shared far and wide, catching the attention of an adorable 9-year-old who has his sights set on the position.

The role entails promoting responsible space exploration, protecting Earth when they bring back samples from the Moon, as well as protecting other planets and moons from our own germs while exploring the Solar System.

Jack's letter obviously made an impact as NASA didn't stop there.

NASA's Planetary Research Director Jonathan Rall called Davis to thank him for his interest in working for the agency, while Planetary Science Director Jim Green has written the child a letter too, as Digital Spy reports. The New Jersey fourth-grader sent the administration a handwritten letter explaining his prodigious qualifications.

Davis noted, "I may be nine but I think I would be fit for the job". Also I have seen nearly all of the space and alien movies I can see.

In the letter, Jack writes, "I have seen nearly all the space movies and alien movies I can see".

Jack ends the letter stating the other attributes that would make him ideal for the position, such as his "great" video game skills and his youth, which will make it easy to "learn to think like an alien".

Davis added that he's great at video games and hopes to expand his knowledge about space by watching Men in Black. "I am young, so I can learn to think like an Alien".

Green said in a separate release that any opportunity to connect with a young mind is a great opportunity for the space agency.

He wrote telling Jack that he was delighted to hear he was a "guardian of the galaxy" and gave him some advice on joining Nasa in the future.

"We are always looking for bright scientists and engineers to help us...." he wrote.

He goes on to tell him more about what the role entails, before wishing him luck in school and that he hopes to see him at NASA in the near future.
