Anyone Can Now Test Xbox One Updates Early - Here's How

It's the Omega group than anyone and everyone can now join, which only receives early builds of minor fixes to monthly updates and will usually get those monthly updates shortly before they reach general release.

Games published through the program are nestled in a corner of the Xbox One store dedicated to Xbox Live Creators Program titles and separate from the rest of the store's offerings, a division Microsoft says aims to provide a fully open marketplace without compromising the typically curated storefront players expect.

The Insider program has four levels of access, which unlock depending on how long you have been in the program and how much feedback you have given. As a result of this feedback, starting today we're better recognizing your participation and dedication by activating user-selected ring shifts - available for those who have reached certain Xbox Insider XP and tenure milestones - for fans to enroll in previously "closed" rings. The Xbox 360's Indie Games program allowed for smaller games to be published cheaply with the help of peer review (and even had a few gems like Death Goat and One Finger Death Punch) but didn't carry over to the next-gen Xbox One. This means if you're concerned with bandwidth usage or the frequency of updates, you can simply move to a lower ring whenever you'd like. Microsoft is trying to simplify entry into the Insider Program through the use of a heirarchical ring program. According to the press release, Insiders on both Xbox One and PC have already been given access to Sea of Thieves, and earlier this year some users were able to play Paladins weeks before release. Insiders can also gain access to first and third party games for beta testing purposes. Not yet an Xbox Insider and interested in joining the program?
