'Blood Everywhere': Shark Attacks Seal Near Surfers Off Nauset Beach

"People [were] yelling, 'Get out the water!" In another incident, which took place earlier this month, a great white shark attacked a seal on a Chatham Beach.

When Pat was safe on the sand, he saw the injured seal desperately swimming along the shore, trying to escape the shark.

CBS Boston reports there were nine shark sightings on the Cape Monday, all the way from Provincetown to Monomoy Island, but the scariest was certainly the one in Orleans, which shut down Nauset Beach just after 1:30.

She took video that showed the seal in the water, leaking blood, and the surfers scrambling to get out.

As the water filled with blood, two nearby surfers quickly swam to shore.

O'Brien, from Waltham, told the newspaper that the seal would later wash ashore.

Beach-goers yelled "shark" and "get out of the water" and lifeguards ran to help in the chaotic scene that unfolded on a Cape Cod beach Monday when a shark attacked a seal dangerously close to swimmers and surfers. "I thought I was dead".

"I just swam for my life right there, just dreading the moment the shark was gonna pull me in and suck me in", Zevi Greenspan of Crown Heights told NBC New York.

The teens swam to safety but said they will think twice about returning to the water. "We got him out okay, and then the seal just kept going down, and the blood was just everywhere".

"They were like, 'Shark!"

"I see people running, people screaming and running and I thought the eclipse so I look up at the sky I couldn't find it", said Schlinger.

The beaches all closed at different times, but the shark was spotted off the coast of Ballston Beach at 11:27 a.m., Clements said.

Numerous sharks have been tagged and spotted by researchers off the coast of Cape Cod this summer, including an 11-foot shark dubbed "Hunter" that was first tagged off SC and subsequently spotted near.
