Bradley Walsh rumoured to play Doctor Who sidekick

Bradley Walsh is reportedly being lined up to play the next Doctor Who companion, next to Jodie Whittaker's Time Lord.

Cash Trapped is now airing weekdays at 5pm on ITV, filling in while The Chase takes a well-earned summer break.

Walsh's name has come up due to his history working with Chris Chibnall, who's taken over from Steven Moffat as showrunner of Doctor Who for the new series.

The source added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Crucially, it won't affect his role as presenter of The Chase". 'It means that his schedule over the coming months will be jam-packed - so he won't be able to continue with the full range of programmes he now makes for ITV.

Now there's more Doctor Who news for fans of the hit sci-fi show to wrap their heads around. As anyone familiar with the Doctor Who formula likely knows, the dynamic has almost-always been a young woman in the companion role (i.e. Billie Piper, Freema Agyeman, Karen Gillan, Jenna Coleman, Pearl Mackie, etc.).

The Doctor - who usually travels with an attractive female - is rumoured to be getting a male companion, dispelling rumours she is set for a lesbian affair. "He loves that show with a passion and so does the audience, so he's delighted to have found a way to make it all work".

Walsh would join Jodie Whittaker as one of the new stars of the show; if he is hired, odds are that he wouldn't appear until the start of season 11, which could air as early as next year.

At the present moment, these reports remain unconfirmed by the BBC, but Walsh is such an unexpected casting choice that there is surely at least some truth to the rumors.

We're sure you'll do a great job Brad!
