Facebook launches "secret" app to dodge the bans in China

Facebook launches

Facebook is blocked in China, and so are many other USA apps. Previously, the Chinese government blocked a number of products from Facebook, Inc.by dint of its Nazi internet policy.

The app, called Colorful Balloons, was launched in China earlier this year and does not carry Facebook's name. The Times says it illustrates the "desperation" of tech firms as they attempt - exhaustively - to break into China's online market. Videos of him speaking Mandarin have gone viral, as did a photo of him jogging on a dangerously smoggy day through Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

"We have long said that we are interested in China, and are spending time understanding and learning more about the country in different ways".

As writes the edition, a hidden and anonymous a major foreign technology company in China is unprecedented.

That indicates she likely is associated with the social media giant.

Download the News Nation Mobile App and stay connected with top stories from India and around the world. Colorful Balloons instead links users through China's biggest social network, WeChat.

The app has been created to collate photos from the photo albums of smartphones and share them.

In 2009, Chinese authorities banned Facebook in China, followed by Instagram its app for photo-sharing in 2014, and WhatsApp its messaging app was partially banned just last month. And it appears the country has been vamping up their already frequent censorship initiatives even more so recently. But the link does not work, meaning people have to seek out Colorful Balloons in an app store instead of grabbing it from their friends, which may limit its distribution. But according to The New York Times, Facebook might have found a subtle workaround to penetrating the country. The company is registered in Beijing and with no trace of affiliation with US based Facebook. The government directed tech companies in July to block their users from accessing secure internet systems known as virtual private networks (VPNs).
