Google might release Android O on August 21st: Expected features

Google rolled out Android O developer preview 4 last month. Fresh information shared by David Ruddock, the managing editor of Android Police reveals that Android O release has been delayed.

Google gears up for Android O release.

"The Android O update for Pixel has been pushed back (surprise)", he tweeted, adding that there's no new release for the upgrade.

With Intel discontinuing the Edison and Joule hardware designs, Google is embracing NXPs hardware to plump out its collection of hardware that can support Android Things. Android O, back at Google I/O this year.

He then said a source with unverifiable information told him Android O's name will be announced on the day of the solar eclipse, while teasing Google's plans for a spectacle to celebrate the moment. It is worth mentioning that this is one feature (though not the only one) which was available to those who were on the developer preview of Android O, more specifically the third preview, so it's not an entirely new feature in terms of this being the first time users are getting a hold of it. At the event, the company also gave a sneak peek into some of the features coming in Android O, the new Android version arriving later this year. So, even though it is delayed now, Android O may hit Nexus devices and original Pixel phones before August 22.

Various reports indicated that this version also brings Selfie Flash feature but that feature debuted with the previous version of Google Camera (v 4.3). The rumor mill has claimed that it may either arrive as Android Oreo or Oatmeal Cookie. There was also no clue or hint regarding the correlation between the upcoming solar eclipse and the name of Android O.

Using Google's advanced machine learning techniques, Android O will bring the ability to select texts, recognise it as an address, email ID or a contact number, and will show related options.

Always be the first to know.
