In Silicon Valley, Defense Secretary Promotes Diplomatic Solution To North Korea

Mattis says any action by North Korea would be grossly overmatched by the US, and that Pyongyang would lose any arms race or conflict it started.

Trump responded to a question about a new report in which USA intelligence analysts have "assessed that North Korea has produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead, according to multiple sources familiar with the analysis of North Korea's missile and nuclear program", CNN reported.

Over the weekend, the United Nations Security Council voted unanimously to add new sanctions on North Korea in response to its ballistic missile tests.

He asks, "How often do you see France, China, Russia, the USA voting unanimously on any issue?"

He warned that the tragedy of war is well known and a military conflict could be 'catastrophic'.

North Korea successfully tested an intercontinental ballistic missile last month for the first time, and USA intelligence agencies assess that Pyongyang is capable of producing a compact nuclear warhead and putting it atop a long-range missile.

Pyongyang has been louder in its complaints against a new and tough round of sanctions imposed by the United Nations, with strong USA backing, and Washington's use of Guam as a staging ground for its stealth bombers, which could be used to attack North Korea and are a particularly sore point with the ruling regime in Pyongyang.
