Iran's decision to build up missiles program's budget is logical - Russian senator

The Iranian Parliament on Sunday ratified a motion on countering "US adventurous and terrorist measures in the region".

Head of the Federation Council's global affairs committee Konstantin Kosachev says the decision to increase financing of the missile program, adopted by the Iranian parliament, is a logical response to the USA tougher sanctions.

After the result was announced, lawmakers shouted: "Death to America".

The bill was submitted to the Majlis Presiding Board, by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defense, Intelligence, as well as the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), the IRGC Quds Force, and the Islamic Republic Army.

A total of 240 parliamentarians out of 244 present voted for the bill.

The additional USA sanctions put in place last month directly target the missile programme and the IRGC.

Iran maintains that the missiles that it tests don't violate its 2015 nuclear agreement with world powers because they are for defensive purposes.

He described the legislation as wise and said that government of President Rouhani will support it.

Iran's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee spokesman Seyed Hossein Naghavi Hosseini, while defending the bill, said the bill does not include any measure that would undermine JCPOA in any way; "Iran will never be the first to kill the nuclear deal and take responsibility for its costs", he added.

A string of close encounters between U.S. ships and Iranian vessels in the Gulf in recent months has added to the tensions between the two countries.

"Iran recognises the entire American military and intelligence forces as terrorist groups" for their "implicit and explicit support for terrorist groups" in the region, their role in creating the Islamic State group, and "the support for violators of fundamental humans rights especially the dictator and violent regimes", the bill's text said.

They are obliged to, within a period of six months following the ratification of the bill, devise a comprehensive strategic plan to counter the USA threats.
