OMEN X Laptop is HP's first overclockable portable gaming rig

The laptop is being called the "most powerful gaming laptop to date" and is built for gaming enthusiasts and gaming professionals.

But the big story here in a way is that the OMEN X Laptop is very configurable, much like its desktop counterparts.

Shown off during Gamescom 2017 in Cologne, Germany, the new 17-inch Omen X is - totally unsurprisingly - HP's most powerful gaming laptop to date.

The new Omen X laptop from HP is aimed at the e-sports athletes and comes with seventh-generation unlocked Intel Core i7 processors, XMP memory options for memory overclocking and tested profiles up to DDR4-2800, and factory-overclocked graphics cards up to Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080, HP said in its release. You can choose a 4K panel, or if you prefer there's a 120Hz 1080p panel including Nvidia G-Sync for the smoothest gaming action. Interestingly, the new Omen X laptop comes with thermals to support unlocked CPUs to allow overclocking and factory-overclocked GPUs, as per the company. Going beyond sight and touch, the laptop also boasts dual speakers by Bang & Olufsen as well as support for DTS Headphone:X. With the help of an integrated vapor chamber and bottom vent holes, the internals better move heat away from the important stuff (CPU, GPU) and expel air through the back and sides of the laptop (which also keeps the heat away from you, the user).

The OMEN X Laptop also gets a "generous" selection of ports, which lets users hook it up to four monitors. Overclocking is handled using the included Omen Command Center Software, which offers access to both CPU and RAM speed tweaking as well as allowing you to prioritize gaming network traffic. You can even change the color of a single key. Instead of the rather cheap-looking plastic sported by previous Omen laptops, HP is stepping up its game, outfitting the 17-inch system in aluminum.

HP is taking its first strides into the laptop space with its Omen line, unveiling the Omen X Laptop. Each key has its own tiny RGB LED light underneath it so you can customize each of them if you wish.

The OMEN X laptops will go on sale directly from HP and its partners in November, starting at $1,999. You also can find a variety of ports, including: three USB 3.0 Type A, two Thunderbolt 3-certified USB 3.1 Type C, HDMI 2.0a with HDR support, Mini DisplayPort, RJ45 and a multi-format media card reader.
