OnePlus 3 and 3T to get Android O as final software update

OnePlus 3 and 3T to get Android O as final software update

Currently, OnePlus is sending Beta updates to OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, but once the devices are updated to Android O, OnePlus will move the Open Beta Program from OP3/3T to OnePlus 5. The OnePlus 3/3T OS updates will stop after Android O. Head of Product, Oliver Z at the forums answered a number of important user questions regarding the previous flagships.

So, will they? OnePlus has said "yes" before, but this time, it has confirmed that it will be that last Android version upgrade for the pair. He further revealed that the Android O update will be rolled out along with security patches and individual app updates as well for the near future.

From here, Oliver goes on to say that the company will also be stopping the Open Beta Program for the 3/3T after Android O and use it exclusively for the OnePlus 5.

In the course of the QnA, Oliver was also asked about some OP5 software features making their way to the OP3/3T via an update.

While the OnePlus 3 is fairly old at this point (in terms of smartphone shelf-life at least), the OnePlus 3T is just nine months old and many buyers will be a little miffed at this news.

OnePlus does specifically mention that security updates will continue for the "foreseeable future" (whatever that means), but still, buyers of this phone probably would have liked to have a solid two years of Android version updates.

The OnePlus 3 and 3T are two praise-worthy smartphones by OnePlus. Although the company will continue to back the two devices with security updates. Otherwise, you'll have to wait a while for each official update to come in as the OnePlus 5 has gotten development priority.
