Seven White Helmets members shot dead in northwest Syria

The militant group said the attack was aimed at "undermining our revolution", adding that it stood ready to protect the White Helmets in "liberated areas" of Syria.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the seven were murdered in the wake of being shot in the head, including that the killings were found when volunteers from the White Helmets landed to begin a move and found the assemblages of their associates.

The attackers also stole two vans, helmets and walkie-talkies, according to a statement from the group, which is formally known as the Syrian Civil Defense. The latter group had been known as Jabhat al-Nusra before renouncing its ties to al Qaeda.

Corroborating the attack, the Aleppo Media Center activist group said seven volunteers were killed in an attack - and posted video and photos of their funeral.

"Until now it is mostly likely a crime".

A restriction lobbyist situated in Idlib who has been giving The Associated Press data about the territory for a considerable length of time said the aggressors utilized guns outfitted with silencers, including that individuals living adjacent did not see anything freaky.

The activist said the HTS-linked Judicial Committee is investigating the case.

The civil defense, otherwise known as the "White Helmets", operates in rebel-held areas of Syria.

They have since gained widespread worldwide renown for their daring rescues, with footage often taken and circulated on social media.

Although they work exclusively in rebel-held areas, they insist they are non-partisan.

Their detractors, including President Bashar al-Assad's government and his ally Russian Federation, accuse them of being the tools of their global donors.

The organization was nominated for the Noble Peace Prize in 2016 but didn't win - it commenced operations in 2013 and the volunteers have been known since 2014 as the White Helmets for the sake of the helmets they put on their heads.

Elsewhere in Syria, a suicide attacker blew himself inside a training camp for the Army of Islam rebel group in the southern town of Naseeb, near the border with Jordan, killing more than 20 fighters. He said 30 were executed, 20 were injured and six are as yet lost.
