Trump also ends plans for his Infrastructure Council

Trump also ends plans for his Infrastructure Council

Following the disbandment of two White House business councils Wednesday, attention turned toward President Donald Trump's American Technology Council.

After Trump's response to violence at a white nationalist rally over the weekend that many considered inadequate, business leaders started to drop out of advisory councils. Unlike the other councils, the tech council is made up of 19 government officials, according to the executive order that formed the group, reports GeekWire.

It was meant to help the White House decide how to allocate funds for Trump's thus-far-nonexistent $1 trillion proposal to rebuild the country's transportation systems, which the administration promised to unveil "later this year".

Trump then tweeted that he would dissolve that panel - the Strategic and Policy Forum - and a separate manufacturing council "rather than putting pressure" on the business leaders.

Trump had tapped NY developers Richard LeFrak and Steven Roth, whom he described as friends, to lead the infrastructure panel, which he established by an executive order on July 19.

The council, which was created by a Trump executive order in July, would have recommended the president spend up to $1 trillion renovating roads, bridges and other public works.

The Trump administration has put forward the outlines of an infrastructure package, but not formally unveiled its full plans for Congress.

It was at that event at Trump Tower that he took questions on Charlottesville and renewed his argument that "both sides" were to blame for the violence and asserted that there were "fine people" among those who participated in the protest of the city's removal of a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee.
