Watch Jamie Carragher SHUT DOWN Jamie Redknapp over Liverpool defence

Liverpool fans were left with their heads in the hands when the half-time whistle was blown at Vicarage Road this afternoon.

Redknapp believes the problem rests squarely with individuals and has called for the club to spend big on Virgil van Dijk while Carragher is of the opinion that the manager has to take the flak.

Following Arsenal's 4-3 victory over Leicester City, however, Liverpool legend Carragher was the centre of attention after comments he made to Arsenal's 67-year-old manager.

However, Carragher disagreed: "On set pieces it's not about the defenders".

"So you've then had a pre-season and nothing's changing".

Carragher, fuming with what he'd just witness during the opening 45 minutes, said that Liverpool had failed to resolve any of their defensive problems from last season.

Redknapp said: "I look at that Liverpool back four and there's a reason why they concede so many goals because they're disorganised and they have no leaders at the back".

"You think where they were weak last season: set pieces, getting done on the counter-attack, that's what happened with the first goal - for the corner - it comes from a counter attack". Watford should've been one-nil up before the corner, nothing changes. "Nothing changes. What have we done pre-season?"

"I don't think it's got anything to do with...."

Although Carragher's innocent mistake was laughed up by an bad lot of people on social media, it's safe to say it is the first time that the adenoids, a body part with a similar function the the tonsils, have ever been mentioned after a football match.

"I think Manchester United will be in there, they didn't make the top four a year ago but I think they will with the additions that they've made", he said.

He added: "You need people that want to head the ball". "Firmino can attack the ball!" And Liverpool win that game if you have a player like Van Dijk at the back.

It's hard to argue with Carragher.
