Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin Fight Preview 2017

Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin Fight Preview 2017

"Golovkin is an excellent fighter but his last performance against Danny Jacobs would have given Canelo a lot of encouragement", said Khan.

"The boxing community is expecting this fight to go the distance and be one of the closest fights between two incredible athletes in a very long time".

LAS VEGAS - Miguel Cotto, who plans to retire at the end of the year, has big plans for his career finale, which is due to take place on December 2 at Madison Square Garden in NY.

Cotto, 36, plans to retire at the end of the year, and he told ESPN on Thursday that fighting the victor would be "the best way to say goodbye to boxing".

Assuming the victor of GGG-Canelo isn't too banged up, a December showdown with Cotto would very well happen.

Cotto is in town for the fight and to talk to his promoters at Golden Boy about the possibility of making a deal to fight the victor in what would be a major HBO PPV event. Golden Boy president Eric Gomez told ESPN it's a fight the company is interested in. and Canelo is interested as well. He also said Alvarez has wanted to fight in NY, where he has never boxed.

"Miguel has said he is going to retire at the end of the year and he wants to go out with a bang", Gomez said.

"On paper, obviously, it's going to rival some of those big fights. but it really depends how the fight comes out, how it pans out", Alvarez said. Trainer Abel Sanchez urged him to go to the hospital, but Golovkin wasn't about to interrupt preparations for what could be the defining fight of his career.

Since the fight with Brook, "GGG" has faced Daniel Jacobs in what was arguably his toughest fight yet back in March, winning via unanimous decision in a contest that ended a nine-year knockout streak for the Kazakhstan native. "It is a fight for history", said Golovkin. While Mayweather would set traps and lull foes into mistakes, Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) charges ahead with power the middleweight division has rarely seen. He's fought the likes of Paulie Malignaggi, Zab Judah, Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.

Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin is being billed as the fight of the year and, although it is unlikely to come anywhere near the pay-per-view success of Mayweather/McGregor, the bout promises a much more intriguing battle inside the ring. So I don't think his power and his snap is like Golovkin's, but if Golovkin gets caught with a good shot anybody can go down.

"This is going to be a very special fight", said Khan. "Whatever happens, I am leaving the ring December 31", he added.

"You're only good as your last fight and I just think his days are numbered", Brook said, as quoted on Sky Sports.
