Chainsaw nun surprised to become online sensation

After the Miami-Dade Police Department showed Twitter a picture of Sister Margaret Ann holding a chainsaw, she went viral. During her CNN interview, Sister Laechelin said alumni from Archbishop Coleman F. Carroll High School in Miami, where she is the principal, saw her efforts and arrived to help. Students and faculty at the school woke up early Wednesday morning to tidy up their school grounds and community in the wake of Irma. Thank you to all of our neighbors that are working together to get through this!

But the Miami-area nun couldn't avoid the global spotlight after an online video surfaced of her mowing through fallen trees with a chainsaw after Hurricane Irma.

"Sister Margaret Ann wielding that chainsaw, chopping up them tree limbs, makes us want to bow down and say 'Amen.' Look at you go, Sister". "And I saw somebody spin in the mud and nearly go into a wall, going off the road".

"I had the time, I had the chainsaw, and I figured I'd just do what I could to help out", she said.

The chainsaws were sitting in a closet at her school, Sister Margaret Ann said, "and they didn't belong there".

Catholic schools will remain closed for now, so the nun has a little extra time on her hands.

Country music singer Dylan Schneider, inspired by "Sister Margaret Ann", belted out lyrics later posted via video on Twitter, and composed some lines about her can-do spirit.

People thanked the nun - and discussed the difficulty of handling a chainsaw wearing a habit. According to her, a truck nearly crashed into the down tree, which made her take extreme steps to clear it out. "That's what we do", she said.
