Dave Bautista stars in second 'Blade Runner 2049' prequel short

"The work that has influenced me the most in my anime profession would be, of course, Blade Runner", Watanabe says in the video clip. With the long-awaited sequel Blade Runner 2049 set to hit theaters next month, it has been revealed that Cowboy Bebop director Shinichiro Watanabe is making a new anime short set within the Blade Runner universe. They'll be getting an anime prequel short film ahead of its Japanese release, directed by one of anime's best!

Blade Runner 2022 will also feature music from Kuedo and Miguel Atwood Ferguson, who's worked with Flying Lotus in the past. We'll be able to judge for ourselves once the full short is released on September 26th on Sony Pictures Japan YouTube channel, but it looks and sounds like Blade Runner: Black Out 2022 is in good hands.

IMAX will allow fans to experience more of the action of Blade Runner 2049 than in any other format.

The original Blade Runner film was set in Los Angeles in the year 2019 and featured lead character Rick Deckard (played by Harrison Ford) drinking Johnnie Walker poured from a futuristic bottle.

Watanabe is writing the script in addition to directing. The story will involve a large power outage on the west coast of the United States. Cygames Pictures, the anime studio subsidiary smartphone game publisher Cygames established previous year, is producing the animation.

Villeneueve added: "Like many fans, I remember the Johnnie Walker bottle from the first film, so it was a unique privilege to collaborate with Johnnie Walker on designing a totally original, custom bottle for the new movie", said Villeneuve.

"The cast includes Kenichirou Matsuda as Iggy, Ichigo Aoba as Trixie, and Makoto Furukawa as Ren".
