Google to end the scourge of auto-playing videos in Chrome 64

Google to end the scourge of auto-playing videos in Chrome 64

"These changes will give users greater control over media playing in their browser, while making it easier for publishers to implement autoplay where it benefits the user".

Use autoplay sparingly. Autoplay can be a powerful engagement tool, but it can also annoy users if undesired sound is played or they perceive unnecessary resource usage (e.g. data, battery) as the result of unwanted video playback. For example: if the user has frequently played the media on the site before when visiting from the desktop browser; if they've tapped or clicked on the screen during the browsing session; or if they've added the site to their home screen on mobile.

The change won't make the web totally silent-videos will be allowed to automatically play as long as they are muted, and Google will allow users to indicate their interest in certain content to allow that media to play by default.

Google says this is one of the most frequent concerns from users: unexpected playback. Not exclusively does the experience astound and irritate web clients, it can likewise devour power and utilize data- which is an issue for mobile phone users, specifically. Chrome 63 will be making its way to users in October 2017, while Chrome 64 is slated for release in January 2018.

The war of the browsers against the advertising has really begun: Apple is going to make obsolete a portion of the cookies as soon as September 2017, while Google, which develops the Chrome, has several new items in its drawers. There are few things in life more annoying than a video you never wanted to watch blaring audio out of your speakers when you least expect it.

The latest version of the Google Chrome web browser now is Chrome 61.

The upcoming Google Chrome feature won't block every advert, but will block ones that are deemed unacceptable. Chromium will now only autoplay videos that do not have sound, or if the user has indicated an interest in such content. The feature will filter out advertisements that don't meet guidelines published by the Coalition for Better Ads.
