Ireland's Ryanair to cancel 40-50 flights per day

Ryanair will cancel up to 40-50 flights daily for the next six weeks as it seeks to improve its system-wide punctuality.

It says this is because of increased holiday allocations to pilots and cabin crew.

Unfortunately, Ryanair stated that they had no choice but to cancel the flights because of staff needs.

In addition to compensation for the cancellations, customers are entitled to be booked on a rival airline if the original airline doesn't have an alternative flight available, according to European Passenger Rights legislation.

The Irish Travel Agents Association has called on the airline to publish a full list of the flights to be cancelled over the next six weeks.

Up to 50 flights daily will be scrapped up til the end of October, but thousands of customers are in the dark as to whether theirs are among them.

Flights will be operating as scheduled unless passengers have received a cancellation email. "Please check the email address used to make your booking". Have your flights been affected?

They have urged customers to check their emails for information regarding cancelled flights.

The move is also aimed at bringing punctuality back up to 90 percent by providing additional standby aircraft, after Ryanair's on-time performance fell below 80 percent in the first two weeks of September.

"We have operated a record schedule and traffic during the peak summer months of July and August but must now allocate annual leave to pilots and cabin crew", spokesman Robin Kiely said in the Friday statement.

Among the cancellations on Friday and Saturday were 17 flights in and out of Dublin Airport.

"Alternatively you must be offered a full refund".

If you think you are eligible for compensation from your cancelled flight, you can fill in the online form on Ryanair's website.

Thousands of passengers across Europe were left stranded on Friday as the Irish low-priced carrier grounded 82 flights, blaming the move on a need for its staff to catch up on holiday entitlement.

Up to 285,000 passengers could be affected, including those flying from Stansted, with the airline offering alternative flights or refunds.
