Airbnb Rigged with Hidden Cameras, Could Be Hundreds of Victims, Police Say

Airbnb Rigged with Hidden Cameras, Could Be Hundreds of Victims, Police Say

He had been renting out the home through Airbnb for two years.

A couple visiting from IN discovered the cameras-one IN the bedroom and one IN the living room-on September 1, just a day after arriving, and reported them to police. When he took it down to have a look he found a camera pointed directly at the bed.

A couple vacationing in Longboat Key, Florida, allegedly found a hidden camera and microphone in their Airbnb rental, the Sun Sentinel reports.

"We seized a lot of computer storage data devices, hard drives, computers, laptops, SD cards, anything that would store data", Lieutenant Bob Bourque said.

Derek Starnes told Tampa-based WFTS via telephone he and his better half are blown a gasket by what happened. Lt. Robert Bourque of the Longboat Key Police Department told Ars that the suspect, Wayne Natt, was arrested on October 3 and charged with one count of video voyeurism.

Starnes said Airbnb needs to do more to keep this type of thing from happening.

A spy camera in a shower gel or in a deodorant roller? Starnes said he trusts other individuals that leased from Natt at the address situated at 623 Cedars Court in Longboat Key will approach.

After Natt's capture police said he gave them an announcement with his legal advisor introduce.

He said: 'My wife and I are distressed by this situation. "I hope more victims will come forward", Starnes said.

"He says that everyone videoed had knowledge he was videoing them", Bourque told WFTS.

Airbnb said in a statement that it was "outraged" over the reports and have banned Natt from the site.

Natt reportedly told investigators that he turned off the camera when guests stayed there and only used it for private sex parties with people who knew they were being recorded, but authorities are skeptical. Natt has since been released on bond.

However, police are skeptical about his claims: "If people are consenting to recording sexual activity, why is [the camera] in a hidden smoke alarm?" Our team has reached out to local law enforcement to aid them with their investigation of this egregious offence and we hope justice is served. "We take privacy issues extremely seriously and have a zero-tolerance policy against this behaviour".
