Biggest Stars Snubbed From Ballon d'Or Shortlist

The 30 nominees for this year's edition of the Ballon D'Or have today been revealed, with players from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Juventus included.

The other four were Neymar, who recently joined Paris St-Germain from Barcelona, Juventus' Paulo Dybala and Real Madrid duo Luka Modric and Marcelo.

The full list of top footballers was revealed across Monday by organisers France Football, with Champions League and La Liga winners Real Madrid dominating with seven nominees.

Chelsea's N'Golo Kante has been shortlisted for the prestigious Ballon d'Or award.

Hazard's teammate N'Golo Kante, now nursing a thigh injury sustained on global duty with France, also makes the cut, along with Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

Indeed, no player over than Ronaldo or Messi have won the award since 2007 when Brazilian Kaka beat the pair to the gong.

Ronaldo is the favourite to win the award, after his 10 goals across the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final of last season's Champions League which led Real Madrid to an historic back-to-back triumph.

With Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur all having players nominated for the prize, the Premier League has more clubs on the shortlist of 30 players than any fellow European competition.

Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is odds-on to claim what would be a record equalling fifth Ballon d'Or trophy.

The Ballon d'Or is judged exclusively by a panel of journalists after FIFA and France Football ended their partnership in 2015.
