Chinese women detained at South Korean airport after plastic surgery

Chinese women detained at South Korean airport after plastic surgery

But three women, said to be Chinese, got into a spot of bother this week after travelling to South Korea to have plastic surgery.

But with their faces heavily swollen and covered in bandages, can you really blame the security personnel?

The women were left stranded at an unnamed airport in the country after surgery had changed their faces so radically that the authorities were unable to confirm their identity.

According to reports, the photo was first posted on Weibo by Chinese TV presenter Jian Huahua on Sunday and has since been taken down. Customs officers at the airport could not identify the women and were forced to detain them for clarifications, Shanghaiist reports. Almost half of women in Seoul under the age of 30 are estimated to use plastic surgeries to enhance their facial features.

The women went to South Korea for plastic surgery during the autumn Golden Week - China's main public holiday - the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

South Korea has a booming and affordable plastic-surgery industry complete with travel packages that include cosmetic treatments followed by safari trips in Africa, where people can heal - if they can make it past airport officials. It is not known what proportion is for plastic surgery.

An incident similar to the one that happened with the three women took place last month with "Human Ken Doll" Rodrigo Alves, when the 34-year-old plastic surgery fanatic faced trouble on arriving at Dubai, where he was detained at the airport due to his passport picture.
