CSA explains T20 Global League postponement

A number of top worldwide players had been signed for the planned six-week tournament due to feature eight teams, including England one-day captain Eoin Morgan and former England batsman Kevin Pietersen.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) says it is in the best interests of the tournament if the inaugural T20 Global League is postponed until next year.

South Africa's new franchise Twenty20 tournament has been postponed because of lack of a broadcast deal and title sponsor.

Moroe stated that the various franchise owners were in complete support of the decision of postponement.

"We have not come to this decision lightly", acting CSA CEO Thabang Moroe said in a statement on Tuesday. Lorgat had been considered the mastermind of the T20 Global League product.

"The Durban Qalandars would like to pledge its commitment to the league and would like to reiterate that we will be back in South Africa for the start next year", franchise owner, Mr Fawad Rana, said.

Last Friday, Moroe had insisted that the tournament would go ahead as planned. If we are going to deliver a league that takes away from that, it would be irresponsible. "We will start on November 3 as promised".

The South African Cricketers' Association expressed "concern and disappointment" at the decision.

Without a broadcast deal, the board was set to suffer heavy financial losses.

Just two weeks ago, CSA and their CEO Haroon Lorgat parted ways.

Since the announcement of the ambitious T20 Global League, it has been hampered by various logistical challenges. The left-armer pace bowler got released from his New Zealand Cricket contract to play in both the Australian Big Bash and the South African T20 Global League, while McCullum was a big-name signing alongside the likes of West Indies batsman Chris Gayle and former England worldwide Kevin Pietersen. The amount was close to half of CSA's cash reserves.

After South Africa's upcoming four-day match against Zimbabwe, there is a chance that the country won't enjoy any cricket between October and December.
