Disney Scraps Animated 'Jack and the Beanstalk' Movie, 'Gigantic'

While Catmull's statement leaves the door cracked open to revisit very big again in the future, the film now joins the likes of Pixar's Newt and Disney's King of the Elves as projects shelved after long periods of development.

Both Disney Animation and Pixar have grown leaps and bounds since then, with Ed Catmull serving as the animation studio's president and John Lasseter as its chief creative officer.

It had staff from "Inside Out", "Tangled" and "Frozen" attached, but Disney's remake of the Jack and the Beanstalk is being put on hold for now. Who knows, maybe enormous will go the same way; a decade later the project might come out with a brand new title and concept we can look forward to again. Next up, Disney Animation has Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, which is slated to hit theaters on November 21, 2018, and Frozen 2 set for November 27, 2019. A Jack and the Beanstalk update that would have found Jack befriending a female giant, huge was set to be co-directed by Inside Out co-writer Meg LeFauve, and was to feature original tunes by Frozen's Oscar-winning songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez.

Apparently the studio got to the point where the creative process has hit a wall and they are "ending active development for now".

The decision leaves just two films on Disney Animation's slate: Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 and Frozen 2, which are set to release in November 2018 and November 2019 respectively.

Instead of "Gigantic", the studio is focusing on another project which is now being tabled for Thanksgiving 2020.

The new project has not been detailed yet but it will be an original feature.

If you've ever heard the long and gruelling process The Emperor's New Groove went through, this kind of cancellation should come as no surprise.
