FIFA bans Pakistan Football Federation over 'undue 3rd-party interference'

FIFA bans Pakistan Football Federation over 'undue 3rd-party interference'

Dogged by allegations of corruption for years, the PFF has been run by a court-appointed administrator since 2015 after the organisation was split into two warring factions.

The decision to suspend Pakistan's membership was taken by the bureau of the FIFA Council and was implemented immediately. Acting Secretary of PFF, Syed Farasat Ali Shah, told Reuters the football body will hold fresh elections once the court's proceedings are over.

Pakistan has been suspended from worldwide football because of what global soccer body FIFA described as undue third-party interference in the country's football federation (PFF).

He said FIFA's laws are very clear and they do not allow for any undue third-party interference. The chaos led to Pakistan Football teams missing out on numerous worldwide events during last two years.

"FIFA had sent Pakistan a very clear message".

It is worth mentioning that after the controversial elections in 2015 and the legal battle between two groups of PFF, FIFA had given two years' mandate to Faisal Saleh Hayat to bring reforms in PFF, which ended in September 2017.

"The suspension will be lifted once the PFF offices and access to the PFF accounts are returned to the PFF", the statement added.

Football's world governing body FIFA has suspended Pakistan after rejecting the running of the country's football federation by a court-appointed administrator. But the Federation Internationale de Football Association has given the faction headed by Saleh Faisal Hayat the mandate to revise statutes and hold fresh elections in two years time. As defined in article 13 of the FIFA Statutes.

Just as significantly the federation will not be able to benefit from any FIFA training and development programmes, though these had already been suspended.

First of all, the PFF's teams, both national and affiliated, face a ban from playing in global competitions. "So, it is unclear what PFF is supposed to do now", a source said.
