Injured Shkodran Mustafi set to miss Arsenal's trip to Watford

Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi will be sidelined for up to six weeks with a hamstring injury.

The 25-year-old limped off in Germany's 5-1 win over Azerbaijan on Sunday, which ensured the world champions finished their qualifying campaign for Russian Federation 2018 with a 100 per cent record.

Wenger said in a press conference: "We lost Mustafi for four to six weeks".

Nacho Monreal is expected to be available, but Laurent Koscielny has been nursing a troublesome Achilles which flared up before the worldwide break, while Calum Chambers is recovering from a groin problem.

The injury adds to Arsène Wenger's problems, with Laurent Koscielny suffering from an achilles problem and Calum Chambers nursing a groin injury. At the moment, he's not available.

Another player that picked up an injury during the break was summer signing Sead Kolasinac, but Wenger doesn't expect the Bosnian international's hip problem to be too serious.

The Scot suggested that Arsenal are being left behind by the likes of his former team, Chelsea, the Manchester clubs and our north London rivals Tottenham, so perhaps Wenger should use this to make sure the Gunners go to Watford and prove Dalglish wrong by going back above Liverpool on Saturday evening. "But he trained on his own and the first signs are positive so we chose to give him a test tomorrow".

"We will assess Sanchez when he comes back, I watched the Brazil game and he got some special treatment in that game". Also throw in to the mix that Mertesacker is in his final year of football before retiring at the end of the season, so it would be very demanding both physically and mentally on the German to play all three of these upcoming games. The centre-back will have a late fitness test this week to see whether he will be okay for the trip to Watford, which Wenger will be praying for some positive news on. The player looks happy.
