Lenovo reaches back in time with the new ThinkPad Anniversary Edition 25

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original ThinkPad, Lenovo has spun out a special tribute version of it. Now, during an event at the Yamato Labs in Yokohama, Japan, the company officially unveiled the ThinkPad 25. The laptop features a 14-inch Full HD touchscreen, an Intel Core i7-7500U, GeForce 940MX GPU, 16GB of DDR4, a 512GB NVMe SSD, multiple ports (including Thunderbolt 3 Type-C), a 720p webcam, a fingerprint scanner for Windows Hello, and a claimed 18-hour battery life. The original ThinkPad become an instant hit and over 130 million units have been sold since. The ThinkPad Anniversary Edition 25 largely resembles a retro-inspired concept put forth by former Lenovo Chief Design Officer David Hill in 2015.

The ThinkPad 25 retains the 7-row classic keyboard with backlighting and a blue Enter key with blue accents on sub-keys.

As you might expect, Lenovo has made only limited quantities of this special edition laptop and it'll only be go on sale in select countries as well. While that still remains true, ThinkPads are making their way into the consumer market.

"We look forward to our continued collaboration with Lenovo to deliver new experiences such as mixed reality and AI that will help ThinkPad users achieve even more".

We usually stay clear of calling a device "iconic" but the Thinkpad has very much earned that title over the years.

Lenovo first announced plans to create a retro ThinkPad more than a year ago, asking fans what they would want to see on such an iteration. "From the 1992 ThinkPad 700C to today's ultralight, connect-anywhere X1 series 2in1s, we continue to push boundaries together for commercial-class performance, security and manageability that empowers the modern workforce".
