McDonald's apologizes after 'Rick and Morty' promo goes awry

The szechuan dipping sauce and special posters were gone in a flash. People took to social media to complain. McDonald's said the Szechuan sauce will come back to its restaurants in winter and it will be more widely available than Saturday's promotion.

After its Szechuan sauce misstep, McDonald's is still trying to make things schwifty in here, and is promising sauce for everyone in the future.

Thanks to Rick and Morty, the price of Szechuan Sauce has reached an all-time high - specifically the price of McDonald's brand Szechuan Sauce.

In late July, McDonald's gave away four jugs of Szechuan McNugget sauce in response to an avalanche of demands from fans of the Adult Swim cartoon "Rick and Morty". It was something of an intriguing, corporate-friendly throwaway reference in a single episode, and plenty of people figured it'd be really cool (as well as a PR win) if McDonald's just brought it back. Simply because the famous chain of fast food had given sale, the time of day as the tells France info, this famous sauce "Szechuan" and this, for the first time since 1998.

If you missed out on McDonald's (very) limited edition Szechuan Sauce, you aren't alone...and you will have another chance later this winter.

You spoke. We've listened.

McDonald's heard the call and promised a "super limited" release of the sauce on Saturday, only at select locations.

If you have never heard of "Rick and Morty", don't watch it, or just don't get what the connection is, don't worry: we've got some info to help you out.

You can check out a video of disgruntled Rick and Morty fans at an under-sauced McDonald's restaurant below, which caused chants of "we want sauce" and the police to turn up. While some are campaigning to see the sauce return yet again to restaurants, others are more concerned with why McDonald's isn't producing almost enough sauce to begin with.

"In the last 24 hours, we've worked to open any portal necessary", the company said.
