President Trump challenges his own secretary of state to compare

U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson confer during a working lunch with African leaders during the U.N. General Assembly in NY, U.S. on September 20, 2017.

Donald Trump has said he and Rex Tillerson should "compare IQ tests" if the Secretary of State called him a "moron".

"He'll be here, in my opinion, for the entire remaining seven years", Trump said.

Tuesday afternoon, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Trump's comment was simply a joke.

Gingrich said he thinks there is most likely "healthy tension" between Trump and Tillerson, "but my sense is that Rex is going to stay". He also said he still has confidence in Tillerson as secretary of state.

Trump has suggested before that he was eying an executive order that would allow individuals to purchase insurance across state lines through so-called health associations, which Republican Senator Rand Paul has advocated.

"So much of our news is just made up-FAKE!"

Tillerson would find it beneath both his personal dignity and the dignity of the presidency - but he'd sign on too, as it'd be a flawless opportunity for him to exit the administration.

US President Trump has challenged his secretary of state to "compare IQ tests", in a potential rift that emerged last week.

Tillerson, in a hastily called news conference at the State Department that same day, pushed back on the claim that he came close to resigning but wouldn't deny the "moron" comment.

"I'm not going to deal with petty stuff like that", he said.

But the President's frequent interventions into Mr Tillerson's area have left many wondering how long his commitment will last.

Asked about the tweets, Senate homeland security committee Chairman Ron Johnson said on "State of the Union" that Trump was right, in a sense. He later sent out a spokeswoman to say “the secretary does not use that type of language.”.

Trump went further on Saturday, tweeting, "Sorry, but only one thing will work!"

McCaskill fielded multiple questions from constituents concerned about the threat of nuclear war with North Korea and about whether Trump is fit for office. During the campaign he said he doesn't have to consult generals because he has "a very good brain" and told a rally in SC that he was highly educated and has "the best words".
