'X-Files' trailer: Mulder and Scully search for their son

Intriguing images to be sure.

Gillian Anderson says she does not intend to continue playing FBI Special Agent Dana Scully past the upcoming, 11th season of The X-Files. Watch the Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis) make Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) an offer that maybe he ought to refuse.

To top all that off, the trailer gives us a taste of just the kind of creepy monsters the new season will tackle too, and they look genuinely unnerving.

The trailer ends, with Mulder standing alone and Scully's voice saying, "The truth still lies in the X-Files Mulder". "Some shows are devoting 50/50 female hires and being quite adamant about that being something that they will stick to", Anderson said, pointing to her other gig, American Gods, as an example.

Those working on X-Files have in the past tried to do a show without Duchovny and Anderson, but it's something that fell flat with viewers, so we can't see them trying something similar again. People are truly excited to see David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their roles as former Federal Bureau of Investigation agents who deal with the paranormal. "I'm asking you to betray the old human race", the Cigarette-Smoking Man tells an unseen person in the trailer. There will even be many flashback scenes showing a young Skinner in The X-Files Season 11.

THE X-FILES originally premiered in September 1993. "I think it's done really well, and you guys are going to be very, very happy with it".

"Gabe Rotter (who served as a writers assistant on Season 9), Benjamin Van Allen (a writers assistant on Season 10) and Brad Follmer (Carter's personal assistant during Season 8 and 9)."

The X-Files returns in early 2018 on Fox.
