Apple shakes off worries about weak iPhone sales

Apple said it sold 46.7 million iPhones in the fourth quarter ended September 30, above analysts' estimates of 46.4 million, according to financial data and analytics firm FactSet.

All three of Apple's major product lines - iPhone, iPad, and Mac computers - reported year-over-year unit sales growth. This quarter's earnings will give a glimpse into the first week of sales for the iPhone 8, one of Apple's newest devices.

The company also showed off other new products in the back half of this year, amid back-to-school shopping season: the Apple Watch Series 3 with a cellular connection, its thinnest and lightest MacBook yet, and the Apple TV 4K. Analysts predicted revenue of $84 billion, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

But investors will also be looking for color on the iPhone X, Apple's most expensive iPhone, during the company's earnings call. Still, there has been news that Apple force is facing significant product difficulties with the iPhone X.

With its rear camera specs, iPhone X has managed to strike a phenomenal balance between picture quality and form factor design, in our opinion, given how far we've come today technologically. Most analysts are predicting Apple won't be able to catch up with demand until early next year.

Making the iPhone X is proving to be a challenge because it boasts a color-popping OLED screen, which isn't as readily available as standard LCD displays in other iPhone models. On the plus side, you're unlikely to run out of storage any time soon and your odds of getting hold of a handset will be better: most customers avoid the highest capacity model to save a few bucks.

"What Apple needs to do is manage consumer expectations so they don't get frustrated having to wait for so long for a new phone", Ives said. "We sold more iPhones than we expected", he said.

Apple fiscal 4th quarter sales results are in with a return to growth in the smartphone, tablet, and notebook markets.

As a point of interest, Apple during the same quarter a year-ago posted revenue of $46.9 billion, a net quarterly profit of $9 billion, and EPS of $1.67.
