EA is destroying fans' trust in Battlefront 2

EA is destroying fans' trust in Battlefront 2

Additionally, the studio is addressing the social backlash of Star Wars Battlefront II, and will even be doing a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) this Wednesday with "key leads" of the studio attending.

As of now, it remains to be seen if EA will revert its position after this latest onslaught of criticism, but we'll likely find out more when Star Wars: Battlefront II launches in a few days.

The Star Wars Battlefront video games are glossy, expensive, highly polished experiences from a major developer. Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Emperor Palpatine, and Iden Versio found themselves behind a paywall that would have cost players tens of thousands of credits per hero.

Wasilczyk continues: "We're reducing the amount of credits needed to unlock the top heroes by 75%". It is more simple than in the previous games but it requires you to do well in-game.

Fans can look forward to the change today, as an update will be "loaded" into the game according to DICE. It transpires that in a thinly-veiled effort to encourage players to buy more loot boxes (or "supply crates", as the game calls them, to make them a little more Star Wars-y), heroes and villains such as Darth Vader are locked behind huge amounts of credits. So mad, in fact, that when an EA representative jumped into the Reddit thread to allay people's fears, the rep's comment became the most downvoted in Reddit's history, getting over 436,000 downvotes in 24 hours as of this writing. That' sounds 20-hours to unlock both heroes.

First, a refresher: over the weekend, folks on Reddit - particularly members of the Battlefront 2 subreddit - started crying foul on EA for Battlefront 2's progression system.

Players took issue with that sentiment, however, because Battlefront II does not rewar in-game currency based on your skill or accomplishments. Although the trailer doesn't reflect Battlefront II's campaign mode, it features some fantastic live-action sequences that will make fans more excited about the game. "We'll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay", EA said. Here's hoping DICE can get everything in order for the big November 17 launch!

Locking iconic characters behind credit walls that will take dozens of hours to get one is just insane, especially when I am willing to bet you have tons of heroes planned which will be behind similar paywalls? "We used data from the beta to help set those levels, but it's clear that more changes were needed".
