Meanwhile, the child's mother demanded that the school be brought to book for alleged negligence under the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

"The Indian Penal Code provides children below seven years of age certain protections against prosecutions".

In a statement to the media, the girl's mother said that she has asked the school authorities to sack the principal, the teacher concerned and the counsellor, issue a public apology on Facebook and refund her two years' school fee with interest. The child told her mother that a boy in her class "opened her trousers and put his finger inside".

The victim complained of pain on her private parts after coming home from school. "She says she wants to eat a lot of food so that she can grow strong and beat up anyone who tries to hurt her in the future", the mother said. The girl, who is on way to physical recovery, has not been opening up with outsiders, the mother added.

The victim was taken to Rockland Hospital, and the doctor on duty after medical examination confirmed that it is a case of sexual assault. "I have taught my daughter to understand touch, and that's why she could tell me all that", the mother said.

The police is now in dilemma of how to proceed with the case since the suspect is a 4-year-old minor.

"She tried pushing him, but could not get away as other children had left and there was no staff around", the mother stated in the first information report (FIR). The family of the girl has also alleged negligence on part of the school when they approached them. As seen in the CCTV footage, her daughter's delayed exit from the classroom corroborated the sexual assault allegation.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, the school's lawyer had earlier refuted the claims of the mother and said that they had an ayah present in every washroom in the school.

Experts advised investigators to handle the case with sensitivity.
