Gareth Southgate adds another two uncapped outfield players to England squad

Ruben Loftus-Cheek was the man who excelled above everyone else and the Chelsea man on-loan at Crystal Palace walked away with the Man of the Match award.

Abraham and Loftus-Cheek are both on a season-long loan deals at Swansea and Crystal Palace respectively from Chelsea, and Higginbotham believes they have a "great opportunity" to impress Southgate.

England begin their build-up to the 2018 World Cup tonight when they lock horns with old rivals Germany in an worldwide friendly, live on ITV 1 at 8pm.

Prior to the match, Tottenham's Dele Alli and Harry Winks were forced to pull out of the squad due to injury, and along with Kane will also miss the forthcoming clash with Brazil at Wembley on Tuesday evening.

"If we won it would have been better but I'm really happy", he said.

Many in the English game have been tipping the 20-year-old to shine on the worldwide stage since he was in his early teens, but a combination of nagging injuries and just 32 appearances for Chelsea over three seasons has seen him overtaken by the likes of Dele Alli and, more recently, Harry Winks.

The stand-out performer was Ruben Loftus-Cheek who despite failing to break into the Chelsea first-team, showed he has the quality to compete on the worldwide stage. I had Gareth in charge for almost three years with the under-21s and the boys have been great.

Despite only making 12 Premier League appearances, Loftus-Cheek displays a kind of arrogance that makes him stand out.

It has to be said that a stalemate is a good result for Three Lions, especially given the fact that they had three debutants in the starting XI and two more would feature off the bench.

"I see things in him that lead me to believe he can play at this level and I think he showed that tonight". We've looked at what Germany have done over a period of time and want to establish a pathway for our young players.

"There are no guarantees but I feel I have a better chance of playing". If we do that, the technical type of player that is coming through our system now and the athletic profile we have got could be really exciting.
