Google pays tribute to the hole puncher

A hole puncher is a common office tool that creates holes in sheets of paper so that the sheets can easily be collected in a binder or folder.

The design of the hole puncher has not changed much in the 131 years since its invention.

From that point forward, obviously, paper punches have turned out to be basic for school youngsters with three-ring fasteners who need to monitor their work and even undergrads. Later hole punch was patented by Benjamin Smith, who named it "Conductor's punch". The competition, called Google 4 Doodle, has been held every year since 2010 and showcases interpretations of the Google logo created by children in India.

Patented by Friedrich Soennecken on November 14 1886, the hole puncher has gone down in history as one of the all time great feats of German ingenuity.

It's a great news, that Google Doodle is Celebrating Children's Day along with the 131st Anniversary of Hole Punch. The more drawn out the lever, the more sheets of paper can be punched through with the same negligible power.

It's a familiar scene with a familiar tool: the gentle rat-tat-tat on the table as you square up a dangerously thick stack of papers, still warm from the printer. And finally, the delightful surprise of the colourful confetti byproduct "an accidental collection of colourful, circular leftovers".

The irony of Google celebrating a tool that it's doing more than anyone else to make obsolete shouldn't be lost on anyone. A two-hole device then punches a piece of paper occupying the second "g" in "Google", then proceeds to smile and dance. "As modern workplaces trek further into the digital frontier, this centuries-old tool remains largely, wonderfully, the same", Google wrote of the office item after describing how it feels to use one including the hearing of the "satisfying, tiresome 'click!'"
