"Harry Potter" Version of Pokémon Go Debuts

According to BBC, rumors circulated a year ago that a Harry Potter game was in the works, but it was eventually debunked.

"We are delighted to welcome the Harry Potter films to our catalogue of award-winning original programming and crowd-pleasing theatrical films", said Bruce Grivetti, Executive Vice President, Business Affairs and President, Film Programming. As they did in Pokemon GO, players will have to get out and go for a walk to really make the most of the game, exploring their neighbourhoods and uncovering artefacts, new spells, beloved characters (can't wait to bump into Luna Lovegood at Highpoint for no reason) and Fantastic Beasts. They will all be released under a new label - Portkey Games - so-named because Portkeys transport wizards from place to place in the books.

The tech giant is probably hoping the game will be as popular as Pokemon GoWhat will Harry Potter: Wizard's Unite be about?

To note, a similar AR gaming app based on the "Harry Potter" novels was already developed.

A press release from Niantic said the game would allow players to cast spells, roam the streets and team up with others to put an end to destructive beasts. The working of the game is same as of Pokemon Go.

The title is likely to take advantage of enhanced augmented reality features provided by Apple and Google via their ARKit and ARCore developer tools, which were not available when Pokemon Go launched. Whatever the mechanics of the game, with the Harry Potter franchise extremely large fanbase, it's safe to say there will be a lot of interest in this game.

Remember previous year when the world lost its mind and spent several months solid playing Pokemon Go?!

"But I still don't think they will be essential to the experience".
