Hodgson keen on Wilshere

The 25 year old Wilshere has only played 2 Premier League appearances so far this season and Gareth Southgate did not name him in his latest squad for friendlies against Germany and Brazil as a result of the lack of game time which he has seen.

Southgate encouraged Wilshere to keep working hard at Arsenal and refused to rule out the possibility of including the midfielder in his World Cup squad.

"Jack played as a number 10 all of last season on loan at Bournemouth", Southgate told his pre-match media conference. But we are not playing with a 10 tomorrow. Southgate holds him in high esteem but his slide down the Arsenal pecking order and the difference of opinion over his deployment means he may need a new club, a new position or both in January.

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has urged Jack Wilshere to leave North London at the end of the season and try his luck overseas at 'a club like AC Milan'.

"I've been here 10 years, I love this club and feel like I have a special relationship with the fans", Wilshere told Standard Sport. I am happy with where I am, playing-wise.

"You'd have to ask Arsene why he wasn't at Arsenal last year and you'd have to ask Eddie why he played him as a 10 last year".

"I really like Jack Wilshere as a player", he said. Roy Hodgson, under whose tutelage Wilshere was an automatic selection when fit, is keen to be reunited with the player at Crystal Palace.

"I have got no idea about where the name of Jack Wilshere has come from, so where did you get it from?"

"I am hoping that we are in a position in March where we can pick him". Wilshere has played a lot more this season that Drinkwater and more than the Tottenham left back Danny Rose who also got an England call-up.
